FROM THE CITY TO THE CLOUDS
We left Boston around 9pm and headed north about four hours to reach the base of Mount Monroe. We started hiking from the trailhead at 2am, with deep snow gators and snowshoes ready to go! 16 inches of untracked powder and steep inclines made for some difficult climbing, but we pushed on and summited around 6:30am, half hour before the sun! Right as we were waiting for the sunrise, the clouds from the valley swept aggressively over the ridge-line and left us in a white out with no chance of enjoying the sun’s warmth. After 20 minutes on the summit with high winds and little sun, our fingers told us it was probably time to head back down. We got back down to the car at 9:30am and started the long drive back to civilization after another all nighter in the White Mountains. Next time it’s 2am and you haven’t even started yet, just remember, don’t trust your gut and go to sleep. JUST GO! It will be worth it.
